    I think your completely on point with this observation. I think a few questions have to be asked. Are we (fire service) completely over-engineering this and “what if’n” it to death? We typically run a TTRS but we identify one as main and one as belay. When using the MPD and on the belay we almost always dump in a friction carabiner. I think the best solution would be to have competent people do the rigging and put a competent person on the belay line. Good stuff! Keep it coming.
